    Job description

    As a member of the Information Technology Services Project Management Office, the Project Director will direct and manage the selection, design, development, conversion, integration, testing, and implementation of UCLA's Student Information System. This is a mission critical effort to modernize technology utilized to support admissions, financial aid, student records, and student accounts. The Project Director will collaborate with project sponsors, functional leadership, technical leadership and Project Management Office teams to select software and implementation partners, develop an implementation strategy and project plan, determine resource needs, and forecast an overall project budget. The Project Director will work closely with subject matter experts within Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar's Office, Student Accounts, Graduate Division, and Professional Schools to develop functional specifications and the system design. 

    The Project Director will also oversee the work of functional and technical teams related to process design, software configuration, system enhancements, data conversion, systems integration, testing, and infrastructure management. Additional responsibilities include staff selection, performance management, vendor management, application development, and utilization of progressive project management tools that enable on-time, on-budget project delivery.

    Desired Qualifications:
    • Seven to ten years of experience managing IT programs, projects, and technical managers.
    • Expert knowledge of program and project management methodologies and tools; skill to accurately develop multi-team project plans, resource requirements, and project cost estimates.
    • Successful experience implementing large-scale enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft, Ellucian, or similar packaged applications; track record of success in managing enterprise-wide IT projects.
    • Effective change agent with experience in large scale system implementation projects that integrate business process re-engineering, system replacement, workforce transition and change leadership methods.
    • Demonstrated experience with all stages of enterprise application life cycle management including software selection, development, deployment, maintenance, operation, and support within a multi-platform computing environment.
    • Expertise in the use of contemporary system development methods including agile, user interface design, responsive design, service oriented architecture, middleware, and data management best practices.
    • Ability to coordinate with other technical support teams that provide middleware, data administration, system administration, quality assurance, production control and, security services in a matrix environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in leading large teams, managing performance and developing staff.
    • Demonstrated experience with managing fiscal resources for a large systems implementation initiative; ability to deliver projects within budget, using resources efficiently and effectively.
    • Demonstrated experience developing effective professional relationships with senior executives, business partners, stakeholders and staff within a large organization.
    • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with people at all levels and backgrounds; verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly and succinctly.
    • Demonstrated success in applying emerging technologies and innovations to improve the ability to deliver products and/or services more effectively.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related OR ten years of relevant professional experience and education.
    • Master's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related (Preferred).
    • Professional services, consulting or systems implementation experience (Preferred).
    • Experience working within higher education Information Technology (Preferred).
    • Knowledge of Student Information Systems and associated functional areas (Preferred).
